How to restart the linux server from HP iLO??

In this topic, we are going to see the different ways of rebooting linux servers through ilo.

Login in to HP iLO using Administrator login and click Power Management.

From that screen we can find the current status of server whether it is powered on/powered off/standby mode.

There you can see the different ways to powering down or rebooting the server when it is not accessible over network or virutal console.

Momentary press:

If power is on, this will result in an orderly OS shutdown if the server and OS are ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) compliant. If power is off the server will be powered up.

Press and hold:

If power is on, Press and hold will result in a hard shutdown if both the server and OS are ACPI compliant. If power is off, the server will be powered up. If the server is a blade and power management is preventing the server from powering up by other means, this will override and result in the server powering up.

Cold boot:

This will result in power being taken away and then power being restored to server.

Reset system:

This will result in a PCI reset. Typically this is less severe than a cold.
